  • New guy with oddball '62 "Stude".

I joined up to pick Chris Dresbach's brain on the M35A1 'nam area trucks after finding a thread by him here through Google with some interesting info. Trying to get this one fixed up (all the dash plates are missing) and also curious about the about the history in general. I am a SteelSoldier's forum member, but it seems Chris might know more about the Stude history.

    Thanks

    David

It does say that Reo designed the M-35A1 that Studebaker and others built.

Thanks for those links, both the Studebaker War effort site and the Reo are really GREAT History!

I never knew that "REO" meant Ransom E. Olds. Of Oldsmobile fame.

His deal with William Durant (GM Fame), when they bought Oldsmobile he was not allowed to use the Oldsmobile name in any future automobile endeavours. To work around the agreement he used his initials and built both cars and trucks under the REO name.

As far as I know, Ransom E. Olds is the only person to have two car companies named after him.

Well, if you consider MG stands for Morris Garage, William Morris of Morris Motors might be another!

They were a blast to drive with their turbocharged multifuel engine. We used them a lot in Thailand even if we didn't do much hauling. In third gear at full throttle they provided a most satisfactory roar. Like all deuce and a halfs they had rock solid suspension. Hang on tight on a rough road.

With two tone paint, it sure is cool

Its got 8 cylinders and uses them all
With an overdrive that just won't stall

With a 4 barrel carb and dual exhausts
With 4.23 gears it can really get lost

Its got safety belts and I ain't scared
The brakes are good and the tires are fair.

Tried to sell her, but got no taker
I"ll just keep driving my Studebaker

The Henry J. was made by Kaiser-Frazier, was it not?

Mine will probably end up missing a few leaves out of the spring packs to soften the ride.
