  • Have R3 Air Box(Adaptor), will exchange for R2

    hi!
My R2 came with a R3 Air Box. I will exchange for R2 Air box, if in good, fully functional condition.

It looks cool[8D], but I would rather have the extra space for maintenance that I would have with the R2. The Air box is in good shape with no known problems. The R3 was put in due to a problem with the Edelbrock carburator throat being larger, so, IF I get the R2, it will see a machine shop.

[?]Anyone know if there are any other issues with the Edelbrock?[?]

I'm confused. There is not a R2 air box, just a chrome air horn and it's too small to fit the Edlebrock.

hi terry,I'm sorry bout the pics i tried to E you
regarding the missing pages. for whatever reason
the server rejected your E-address. I do however have
an R2 air horn, along with the AFB carb. I think the horn
is pot metal, that would need to be re-chromed.I may be
interested in the R3 box if it fits the R2 carb. JNP

I'm confused about what is wanted in this trade. I have a perfect condition R2 carb bonnet I would love to trade for an R3 air box.
The edelbrock carb can be made to work with the R2 bonnet if the top off a carter carb is put on the edelbrock bottom. Haven't tried this myself but have heard it works.
The fuel lines and linkage line up differently on the Edelbrock. Otherwise it should work fine with some minor tuning.

          oh,oh,
what I am talking about is part 1556953, and I cannot machine it to fit the edlebrock?

The carb bonnet part 1556953 has an opening diameter of 4 1/4" the aftermarket Edelbrock carb has an 5 1/8" opening. I don't think there is enough material to machine the bonnet to fit the Edelbrock. I do know that people have modified the Edelbrock to fit the bonnet though. I think it might be possible to weld up the bottom of the stock bonnet and then machine it. I could dig mine out this weekend and measure everything if you want.

You can swap the top off the old AFB onto the Edlelbrock with a little linkage tweaking.

After a couple of years tweaking the Edelbrock/AFB combination, it is rather simple but requires the venturi clusters to be changed and the air valve modified. All very simple stuff but performance and mileage improve drastically with these changes.
