Rear Axle: 57 Silver Hawk Axle

How do I find out which rear axle is in my 57 Silver Hawk with the 289 V8?

look at the casting on the lower right hand Webb of the rear end 23 or 27 is the small one and 44 is the larger and they do use different axles.

Unless it has been changed, a '57 Silver Hawk V8 would have a Model 44.

As Bob said, the Raised "44" will be cast into the Web that connects the right axle tube to the "Pumpkin", usually on the rear facing side, but later ones could be on the front side.
