:) Diego Rosenberg's nice article on the 2007 Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race is now posted on the Old Cars Weekly website. There are several positive Studebaker citations and photos. With all the discussion of late about copyright laws, I'll not post a link. Rather, just go to the Old Cars Weekly website and scroll down to Diego's article, "Not a Drag." Nicely done.

Also, further down, is a story with photos of a 1970 Malibu SS 396 on which the owner had reportedly spent $100,000 for a perfect restoration...and had several first place trophies to prove it. The article doesn't explain exactly how it happened, but the story indicates the Malibu rolled down a boat ramp and was photographed from several angles with only the roof and deck lid protruding from the water. :) Thanks, John.

If readers want to see the Malibu boat article I referenced, do this:

After reading Diego's drags article, go to the tool bar above his article and click on STORIES. From that drop-down menu, click on OCW ARTICLES. Then scroll down once the articles appear. You'll likely recognize a mostly-submerged white 1970 Malibu SS with blue stripes when you get to it! ;) BP

Great article!

I've said it before, but that Martin, MI is ONE BEAUTIFUL TRACK [:p].

Seems like only a couple of months ago (;)) we were there.

Here's Bob and his cuz' George trying to get just a few more HP out of the Tomato at the race in Martin immediately following the International...

...and for those that haven't seen it, here's Ted takin' down a 440 6 pak at that race (note Ted's short shift to 4th when he realizes just how far he's leading by...and STILL turns a 13.4!)...

'Careful, Dick; Diego's article is about the fall event at The Mid-Michigan Motorplex in Stanton MI, not the Knoll Park(?) Motorsports Dragway in Martin MI to which you refer. (You're right, though; Martin is one gorgeous facility.)

It's probably a little cold to be running up there today, though, at either place. Sigh. [V] BP

You can call it Knoll gas motorsports park, you can call it US131 dragway, or you can call it Martin Dragway. Around here we call it home, and it really is a fantastic facility.

Sometimes I miss the old sqaure tower and rickety steps and plank seating.... Ha Ha Not. We are really lucky to have such a great place close by. My Dad's Nova was the Top ET points champion last year.

I don't understand why more people don't come to the drags. Around here the circle tracks are packed every weekend, but the great action at Martin is largely ignored. I don't get it.

Required Studebaker content - Not too many more years and I may finish my 52 finally. I'll be flying the Studebaker banner nearly every weekend at this track if I can.

:) Dan, I know what you mean about attendance at the drags. We live exactly three miles northwest of Indianapolis Raceway Park, which, as you probably know, has been home to the NHRA National Drags since 1960 or 1961 (Ted Harbit will correct me).

Our town of Brownsburg is immediately west of Raceway Park on U.S. 136. The town of Clermont IN is just east of Raceway Park on U.S.136, so Raceway Park is on U.S.136 between Clermont and Brownsburg.

'Back in the 60s, you couldn't hardly move around here when The National Drags were coming to town Labor Day weekend...and it was "bring in the women and children," too, due to its being a rougher crowd.

Today, you hardly know the event is taking place Labor Day weekend. Obscene admission prices :( may contribute to that! ;) BP

Drag races are over so quick, don't turn and the cars rarely bump into each other. I am just giving my perception of the reason for the attendance/interest difference. I have attended both types of racing and have raced on a drag strip. I am also rapidly losing interest in NASCAR racing and I used to be a fanatic.
