  • When car was made

Is there a way to tell what month a car was produced.
Have a 62 Hawk and I understand there is early vs late 62.

Early '62 V8's had the oil filter on the oil fill tube. Late '62's had the oil filter down on the lower right rear side of the engine.

You can go to the International Studebaker Museum website and order a copy of your vehicle's Production Order. This should give you what you are looking for and more. https://studebakermuseum.org/store/production-orders/

You can get a rough idea by just reading the serial # and body tag #.
No deceptive flags to prove I'm patriotic - no biblical BS to impress - just ME and Studebakers - as it should be.

I will add what is implied - post those numbers here and we will help you out.

Adding to what Commander Eddie mentioned in post #3, the production order will have the date of assembly (day, month, year).

              My two 62 Hawks were assembled on 10-10-61 (#8733) and 3-7-62 (#28455).
Both have the same external oil filter.

Other than that the only differences are colors and options.
The first has factory a/c, clock. Second has Twin-Traction.

Would late production would be considered a summer 1962 build date?

Yes late Production would be LATE Summer, as in June, July.

I think the Engine Numbers are available for the Full Flow Filter Changeover for 259, 289 and 170 Engines, and that could have happened in April/May timeframe.

Not necessarily, Andy. I'd say your 28445 was pretty close to the end of partial-flow V8s (oil filter on top front). Remember, they needed the full-flow V8 block (oil filter on lower right rear of the block) for the Avanti, and prototype Avantis were coming to be. Can you post the engine ID stamping for your engine in 28445? BP
We've got to quit saying, "How stupid can you be?" Too many people are taking it as a challenge.
