I just got a set from Stude International...but I was on a wait list for 2 years. Were $380. I believe, they may have extras.

Dave Thibault now has repopped them in cast aluminum; very nice looking for $600.

I dyno tested a pair and they didn't melt.

Are the head pipes readily available?

I think Don Simmons sells those.

Just found an old post that mentions him.

Any numbers from the dyno test Jack? What about in comparison to the cast iron factory headers? Thanks, Quentin.

Don Simmons does sell the head pipes for the R3. I bought a set from him about 6 months ago.

The bad news is on a 308", but otherwise stock R1, through the mufflers, the R3 headers showed zippo, zilch, nada, none, absolutely no increase in horsepower over the standard exhaust manifolds.

The Studebaker engineers wouldn't have wasted their time or money developing them for the R3 unless they saw some power there, so probably, with the longer duration of the R3 cam, and the greater exhaust volume from the supercharger, the R3 headers and loud mufflers might show a noticeable horsepower increase.

I have ONE, i.e a single R3 header and head pipe that were include with my purchase the '63 Avanti. The chrome is flaking off the header and the head pipe appears to be stainless steel. What are they worth?

ASSUMPTION: So because the one Exhaust Manifold was for an Avanti, that means it can be used on either side on an Avanti and it has no Gen./Alt. Mount and can be used on the right side of non-Avantis with a Cyl. head Gen./Alt. Mounting Bracket like Lionel Stone used to sell?

Pontiac Super Duty engines had aluminum exhaust headers from the factory in 1962 and 63, maybe even 1961 also.

Correct. They were very thin castings for drag use only and came with a written warning never to use them at full throttle for more than 12 seconds and never for superspeedway use.
