  • '66 Rear Brake Drums

I am told that rear brake drums for a 6-cyl. '66 Studebaker are no longer available. Is this correct?

Is there a substitute brand-X drum that can be used, or is there a reasonable work-around?

Studebaker Int. lists them-not cheap though,$150 each.Tell us the diameter of your drums, and whether or not the car has the flanged axles.[I think all 66s did.]

The drum is needed for a low budget driver. Yes, it has flanged axles. If there is not a cheaper work-around, it may make more sense to sell the good drum and put it toward a rear disk conversion!

So Jim; does that mean that this '66S has Disc Brakes?

The standard drum brake rear is only 9 inches on a 6, but disc. would have the finned 11 inch rear drum which is available. It is rare, but possible on a '66S! [:0]

No, it is currently drums all around. But, if drums are $150, it may make sense to change to discs.

Jim I dont have the info at hand right now but
I remember someone used Jeep Cherokee drums but had to have the
surface the shoe rides on cut a little deeper than it would be when used
            on the Jeep.
A google search of alt.autos.studebaker turned up the info.

But it was in reference to a 10" inch drum.
As used on Dana 30's used on early Jeep Cherokees(GM V6 version)
