  • Hood Spring

I removed the hood to pull motor. The right hood hinge had no spring from the hinge to the inter fender. How does one pull these springs open to reach the hood hinge? I can see a real PIA holding the hinges up while connecting the hood. Any tricks?[}][}]

Close the hood with the spring hooked on the hinge and hanging down. Hook a length of mechanics wire to other end of the spring hanging down under the inner fender. Wrap the other end of the wire around a breaker bar, extension or piece of pipe and pull down and over the hook. then just pull the wire out and you are done.

use GOOD wire! If you use soft steel wire it can break, those springs are strong. I've had "fun" installing both those springs and the clutch spring.

I appreciate the question and answer. This is one of my next steps in the process of putting the Hawk back together.

I've got exactly the same problem with Ike, the hood sure opens and closes funny. I have a spring ordered, now I have installation instructions.

          Thanks.
