  • Transmission / Overdrive: 55 DG250 shifting problem

I have converted my throttle cable , from carb back it is stock , I adjusted it by the book several times 1st to2nd shifts perfect , but I have to let up on the throttle to shift to 3rd , as soon as I just touch the gas it shifts back to 2nd , any suggestions .

Exactly what do you mean by: "I have converted my throttle cable , from carb back it is stock"?
Converted from what? A poorly modified/incorrect setup maybe?

'50 to '64 Studebaker Car Automatics have all Throttle RODS controlling the Throttle Pressure, from the Throttle Bellcrank all the way to the Trans. Pressure Lever, any attempt to modify any of it with cable will defeat the adjustment process and cause incorrect shift points.

The no shift to 3rd. under acceleration, sounds like too much Throttle pressure to me unless there are internal issues with the Valve Body or other incorrect assembly work.

I wasn't real clear about the throttle it was not on the car when I got it so I went to pick n pull & got a cable setup, the throttle rods were still on the carb to the tranny . I'm sure the set up is fine the original adjustment rods are still there I was able to adjust it by the book INCORRECT ASSEMBLLY WORK & ALL .thanks for the reply I bought a pressure tester so I'm going go through all the tests procedures by the book .

It could be caused by the governor which is contained in the rear housing. It can be removed while the transmission is in the car but you have to be careful as some of the mechanism has to be carefully aligned to get it back together. I believe there are also some springs that have to be positioned as well. I have only worked on the early DG 200.

Actually I was not talking about anything that you did, but internal issues inside the Trans. caused by thet last overhaul or damage.

It is still unclear what is going on with the "Throttle", since the Throttle Pressure and Carb. Linkage are integrated at the Bellcrank, I don't understand how you could have a Cable for the "Go" pedal and not affect the Trans. Pressure.
