  • Engine: crankshaft issue.

I am wondering, will the crank out of a 1962 ohv, fit my flathead? They are both 170 6's. Thanks

What model year is your 170? That crankshaft will fit a 1959 & 1960 170, it will also fit in a 1955-58 185 Champ engine.

It is a 1960. Thank you very much. I couldn't find any info anywhere.

The '62 crank did fit. It is a little longer than the 60 crank, but used my 60 damper/pulley etc. The bolt for the crank however is also shorter. Hoping to sit it back in this weekend. Thanks again Irish.

Glad to hear I could help. During 1962 Studebaker started using a longer snout on the crankshafts (it allowed for more pulleys) You can add a spacer between the pulleys and bolt or use a different length bolt if needed. I believe the bolts are still available from Studebaker-Intl. Best of luck to you.
