I've been a little nostalgic lately about Bill's Coupe Express. It is without a doubt the most gorgeous Coupe Express ever built. Sorry fellas, and other Coupe Express owners, but Bill's was one of the first ever built into a real modern hot rod and was done with such aplomb and grace and beauty, it almost defies further description.
I'm just wondering if anyone knows where it is.
I tried a search on the forum and turned up empty, though I do recollect having discussed it here before.
Thanks for any tips.

Did Bill say he lost it? You don't lose a Coupe Express under the sofa cushion!

No, Bill passed away a number of years ago. I used to go to his house and talk Studes with him. He would bring his Coupe Express to Fred's picnic out in Woodland and show it. It was always the stand out car in the field. Anyhoo… I was just wondering where it ended up. If its local to Northern CA still, I would love to see it again. Here's an old picture of it at Fred's Picnic.

With all due respect no street rod has ever matched the original IMHO.

I understand… I was being irreverently and intentionally flippant .

For certain, all of the time.

What drive train and suspension did Bill use?
If and I state, if, the car were found and put up for sale. I suppose one
could "modify" back to OE specs? Or at least close too them.

With all due respect no street rod has ever matched the original IMHO.

Is that not true for ANY vehicle, regardless of the make?

(I suppose one could count the Prowler as a factory designed street rod, but it would possibly be the only contender)

I love them both!

Mine will be trimmed out like the modified truck with the exception of the rear window which will be stock and it will have bumpers since I intend to drive it and want to be able to park it pretty much anywhere. ...also I'll have vent windows.

Is it hard to eliminate the vent windows like his?

Junior,
"oh-la-la....that IS one sweet CE!!! love it. Note the rear window...perfect. junior"

Yeah, that rear window is one of the perfect touches that Bill has on his truck. That square window just never sat well with me, considering all the other sexy curves the CE has, the 2R rear window finishes the rear view nicely. You wouldn't want to see Jennifer Lopez with a square butt, would you?

I'm looking for a nice drivers side grill for my 39. And that trim piece that goes on the
"prow" from the bottom of the hood to the bottom.

Do the 39 and 40 interchange - I know that the 40 has a horizontal bars as well as the vertical bars - if they will physically fit in a 39 I Barry Hackney had some rechromed 40. TELEPHONE: 281-787-6230 EMAIL: BARRY@STUDEBAKERSITE.COM

Here's a '39 that the guy next door owns.. Agreed, those 2R rear windows go well in a CE. :)

That's not a body bag… Its just for the organs he needed to sell to finance the build.
Gorgeous truck, tho.

Thanks J. I just sent him an email. I can live with the 40 grills.;) I like them just fine but wonder if the extra bars will impact cooling?

We sorta got off topic, but, seriously, does anyone know where this truck ended up?

Let's head off topic some more. I am looking up a '30 something Packard sedan to identify, but while doing so, came across this Packard Coupe Express:

Sal

the young guy who ended up with Bills 48 Coupe might know -- he bought the coupe from Bills kid.. my memory is going... I remember when Bill sold it for $25,000 in the 90's -- you are right , it was beyond perfect .He offered it to me but it was way out of my price range .....I think I have photos of it up at Jaspers Cruise Night in Rocklin ---
I think Bill said it went to WA -- but I have not seen it anywhere ---so it must of took a boat ride - as my SD did... I'll run a story on it in Dec if you want I'd really like to know who got it ...

Yeah, I remember that Coupe running around town too. Haven't seen in a while. I'll check with a couple Stude guys and see if they know of its whereabouts. He may have some info on the Coupe express. I'll pass on any info I find.
