  • 1965 commander hood torsion bars install

    Hi There,

We are currently in the process is of installing the hood torsion bars on this car. I've looked in the chassis parts manual, and the service manual, but they don't show where the curved end of the bar mounts against the side if the under hood. Also I am assuming the other end gets bolted to the fire wall first? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You,

    Ray Krukowski

Place the torsion bar through the round hole in the hood cross brace & slide it to the other side with the end set on top of the cross brace behind the pinch weld. The opposite end of the rod has the pivot which is bloted to the firewall bracket just below the square hole in that bracket. The other side installs the same way with the torsion rods overlapping in the center. The bolts used where they mount to the firewall bracket have a large shoulder for the pivot to mount so it wont bind. A standard bolt will not work here. The nut should be one that has a star washer as part of the nut.
