  • Interior: Carpet & Insulation

The carpet has pulled away from the rear seat base on my Skyhawk. Also, the paper cover over the hood insulation pad has unattached itself. Best way to reattach?

Gravity is not your friend when reattaching hood insulation. Sometime, removing the hood to make gravity an ally seems to be the only solution. However, it's worth trying to reattach by using 3M Super Trim Adhesive, part number 8090. Both surfaces must be coated evenly and the glue allowed to set up (follow instructions exactly). The fenders and everything under the hood need to be protected from overspray. And some means (pillows, blankets, anything that will conform to the underside of the hood) must be found to apply reasonably even pressure to the lower side of the hood insulation.

For underhood insulators I have always used Weldwood contact cement. If you get a quart can you can brush it on (no mess), and it adheres beautifully. Follow instructions to the letter.
