  • Rear Axle: swap from something else?

I have a very high ratio in my 1960 Champ 1/2 ton. It also needs brake work.

From all the research that I have been doing it almost sounds like it would be easier to find a axle with similar track width, 5x5 bolt pattern and the axle ratio that you want. its possible to even find one with rear discs.

I am not stranger to fab work so moving spring mount wouldn't be a problem.

Just sounds like you could pick up one from a salvage yard fairly cheap and then have a cheap and easy to service unit. IDK maybe im missing something

I'd be looking at a 8.8 from a ford explorer and shorten the long side to what you need.

That's what I did with a Ranger 8.8 for my 61 Lark. Has 5x4.5 bolt pattern though. I think Ford full size truck uses 5x5 bolt pattern.

Chevy and GMC 1/2-ton trucks also use the 5 x 5" bolt pattern.

Thanks for the replies guys, .... I think in going to take as many measurement I can of the axle thats in the truck now, then next time I go to the junk yard take a tape measure and see what I come up with
