  • What engine do I have?

I have also posted a similar message on the Studebaker Truck page.
I think my truck has had an engine transplant in an earlier life. I finally got the grease off the engine data plate (the embossed area at the upper left corner of the block) and it reads "H33967T". According to the parts book and all other sources I could find the correct engine serial number for a 2R16A truck should start with 4R... The engine looks like what I should have, but the numbers don't. What have I got here?[?]

    Looks like a '49 Commander 245

I'll bet the "T" is really a "I" which is what Studebaker used for a "1"

It's essentially the same engine as the 245 used in the truck and most likely a transplant when the original motor got tired...much the same as is done today.
