  • Engine: Avanti R2 normal idle vacuum reading?

I've dug through the archives and seems this question was asked before but never answered--got side tracked. I'm having some issues with an after market booster. All the info on line tells me the booster needs 16-18 inches vacuum to work right. I've never seen that much on the vacuum gage at idle. I've got about 12-13 at 700 +/-RPM, goes up to near 20 at about 15-1800 RPM. Is that normal or do I have either a vacuum leak or some thing out of whack? I've done the normal vacuum leak checks but nothing seems to affect the idle speed. The booster doesn't like that and alternates between good and "not here at all". Checked the booster and check valve, seem ok with a hand held vacuum pump, only thing I can think of is not enough vacuum. Does anyone have any specs on the original Bendix booster? Mine is toast, won't hold any vacuum at all, so no way to compare.
