  • Electrical: Removing sockets from tailight housings?

Is there a reasonable way to get the socket out of a tailight housing? 55 tail light if that matters
The socket on one of mine is split all the way around and while it holds the bulb, it doesn't hold it tighly

Careful prying with a small screwdriver. Avoid damage to the cast pot metal housing. Get a new socket from your local Carquest and carefully crimp it in, still avoiding damage but ensuring good ground. Seal it from behind with some JB Weld. I did all front and rear on my '53. Patience!

You might also want to solider a ground wire onto the socket and with an "eye" on the other end, place that under a bolt that holds the housing to the body... you can never have too many ground connections!
