Am thinking the bed and truck were together when new...making it a '49 model 2R. My guess is it would ride pretty rough, even with a load in the bed

Not a '55, looks like a 2r series truck. With any luck it is a 2r16/17a with the 245 engine.

Well, this certainly ISN'T a case of a new 2R truck not getting registered until it finally sold in 1955!

If that's a California plate on it, it hasn't been registered for the road since before 1963.

            Here's a 'live' link for those interested~

I don't recall as many photos in the ad this morning as I see there are now.
The seller sees value in the bed moreso then the truck it seems...

In that regard, if they doesn't know the year of the truck, I don't blame them too much for it. The Heil dump bed is a pretty well known name these days if you're in the construction industry, so they may not know much about the truck, but the Heil moniker sticks out, as it's lasted up until the present day. Heil is in league with the other names like Hino, Freightliner, Rolloff, Sterling, Federline, and so forth. To put it one way, whoever ends up with the truck not only has the challenge of restoring the truck, but also the vintage dump bed to which it's attached to!

It does appear to be a 56 Calif truck plate, though I can't read the first character: ?55748. If it's a truck plate, the first character should be a letter. I spose it's possible that in Yreka, a truck could have been used off-road for 50 years, since 1962. The truck has obviously been in recent use.
