  • Speedo / Tach / Gauges: Swapping Avanti II speedometer

I'm just curious what would be involved in order to swap the original SW speedometer from my 1982 that goes to 85 with a speedo that goes to 120 or 160. Does the speedo cable need to be changed to make the calibration correct. The car has a 2004r transmission.

The one currently in there looks like this http://www.stewartwa...-P-N-82677.aspx. And I'd like to swap in a guage like this http://www.stewartwa...N-550BP-D.aspx.

I've got to imagine someone has done this in the past. Thanks for any advice.

A simple swap. Take out the old and put in the new. I recently changed out all of my 1981 SW gauges. The new SW gauges have bright white numbers and are much easier to see during the day.

So there is no calibration or anything required? Also it sounds like the new gauges won't match all the other originals?

If you have a GPS then just make the instrument swap. Drive it and see how the indicated speed compares to GPS. If it's off then you need to swap the gear in the drivers side rear of the trans. Not a bad job. When you get the speedo in, if it's off, repost and I'll get you the site you need to make the calculation and buy the correct drive gear. If you don't have a GPS just record your RPM's at 60 mph with the old speedo and do the same with the new one. That will give you the same info you need to change gears if necessary. No big deal.
