The Speedster is almost completed but just found out the trans is junk. Apparently it was previously rebuilt by some who didn't know what they were doing. Many "hard" parts ruined. So, I need a good used Borg Warner 3 speed, DG 250 M, preferably with the torque converter. I live in south central Michigan and would drive a reasonable distance to get one.

ellage We rebuild the DG transmissions and have a rebuilt 250m in stock. My helper is a Studebaker trained mechanic on the DG transmissions. Most of the DG transmissions that have a problem is caused by an improper rebuild. I attend most of the major Studebaker events along with Hershey. Jerry Kurtz York Pa

ellagee First pull off the pan and check for trash and a clean filter. Contents of the pan are a sign to the condition of the rest of the transmission. You will also need a Kent-Moore J4285 band adjusting tool, the only proper way to check, adjust the bands. If the converter has been removed from the engine a Kent-Moore J4286 alignment must be used. Finally drain and flush the converter with kerosene to check for trash. If you need more help contact me. Jerry Kurtz

Plum 55 Yes you can remove the shifter lever without dropping trans. There were two different seals used, the early ones tend to leak after the car sets for awhile. Its my belief that as the fluid leaks down out of the converter the level reaches the shift lever. Newer DG trans use a standard neoprene seal and don't tend to leak. Jerry Kurtz
