View Full Version : GT Hawk ignition switch

Thanks for the information on detailing the underside of my Hawk.
I have ordered Eastwood Chassis Black paint and I will put a yellow
stripe on my front springs.
I have a new problem. When I tried to start the car this morning,
I somehow unlocked the bezel from the ignition switch and I am having
great difficulty trying to push the switch in with the spring working against me. Is there a trick to this or do I have to remove the dash to do it? I tried to look up dash removal in the manual, but there isn't much info about Hawk dashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your advice.

It's a bitch, but no need to remove the dash. Push the switch in hard against the dash and twist the bezel on to the tabs. BTW, chech the bezel to make sure the tabs are not broken off.

You also have a bit more room to manouver if You undo the hood release cable & move it to one side

A good idea while the switch is out-tape over the terminals in back. I disconnect the battery
before removing or replacing the ignition switch. Removing the Hood Release bracket as described above is a near must! Test fit the bezel barrel and see that the slots index easily into the small bosses and adjust until they are a little snug. The job is easier if you can find a helper to insert and twist the bezel while you hold the switch barrel against the spring tension.

The switch on my '60 has two different sized slots. The inside top of the bezel has a hole in it for light to shine through from the bulb located above. If the hole is on the bottom but the switch itself is still right side up, it won't go together. That's one I learned the hard way!
