While waiting for the heads to come back from the shop, I decided it was time to address the side windows.
OMG !!!
Thankfully in an ADHD moment, I had rebuilt the pockets for the quarter windows earlier... Don't think I could have taken that challenge concurrently with the brain damage of getting the quarters back in, aligned and functional. That slide and drop design is shall we say interesting! They are in and operational with only a few skinned knuckles and expletives. Clean, polish, paint, lube and install of these two little windows took the better part of 4 days!
I did discover an unpainted ribbon between the window trim and roof trim. Fortunately, I'd had several cans of matching single stage ivory loaded in rattle cans just for such an issue.
On to the door windows. Nearly as big an engineering marvel as the slide and drop quarters is that flipper that snaps over the top of the side windows. Fuzzy's were dust and not in the SI seal kit. I can see why as they are crimped in and there are only a couple of us who would take the challenge to uncrimp and replace. First I had to power wash 50 years of Arizona sand storms out of the hinge so it would actually flip. Stainless polished up nice and the other parts will get some protective epoxy. Let's just say un-crimping is in process and new cat whiskers are on the way.
Next Studebaker interesting idea was the multi roller tail at the latch end of the side windows. It's not a matter of whether they roll but rather a question of whether I can remove them to replace with a kit from SI. The tails are currently in the electrolysis tank in an attempt to remove enough rust and petrified Arizona mud/dust to install the new ones.
Severe separation bubbles in the wing vents so a quick call to Studebaker Glass has replacements on the way. Looking forward to that project like my next root canal.
OK, you wanted pictures.... just a little venting and a progress report.
