  • Retractable seat belt, was this Studebaker?

I was working on the R2 Lark today and noticed that it has self retracting seat belts. The car has bucket seats. The belt closest to the door retracts. It has some funky spring loaded chrome thing in the middle of the belt which causes it to roll up. This prevents it from hanging out the door. They are Studebaker belts, was this rollup chrome piece something someone added or was this a Studebaker option. Please advise. Thank you

Those are aftermarket "retractors" available at any Auto Parts Store, if you have a time machine to go to 1968-1972!

If I remember right, they were called "Roll-a-belt" and made by Borg Warner.
