  • Wheels / Tires: Stripped stud

After finally finding my hub puller I started to pull the drums to check the brakes. One side came off in a few minutes but, the other was a problem. One stud was broke and I manage to strip the other, I think I did not tighten it down enough and the nut came off. My question is there a way to tighten another bolt on there or some other way to get the drum off so I can replace the broken stud as well as the stripped one.

Since it's already messed up, I would weld the nut on the stripped stud. Pull the drum. Cut the welded stud/nut off with a torch. Then repair the damaged parts.

If you do not have a welder, you might be able to re-die the stud---maybe

Simple. Buy 10 new studs, go to your local car repair mechanic (not the name brand car shops) I payed $75 to press out and press in the new studs. They need to a have a multi-ton press. Do not let them beat the studs out with a hand sledge. Call any of the forums suppliers for new studs.

Well, yes you need to get the drum off then it is simple as you said. If you strip one or 2 studs you have 3 others. A propane torch helps on the hub to release.

62-Studs must be in the correct position for the puller to fit. Perhaps the remaining studs are not in the proper positions---jbjr-any luck???

I have this puller and it can use any position of studs.

Do not lubrictate the rear taper drum to hub. It is a dry friction fit. Read other posts of breaking drums.
