  • Transmission / Overdrive: Help Transmission Rear Oil Seal

Hi guys. Need some ideas on how to remove the rear oil seal on my A/T. A PO installed the seal backwards. The tranny is
in a "70" Avanti II and the "X" member comes into play. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I have a long handled seal remover that worked on my 63 Daytona convert, about the same X member problem, come on by and get it!

Hi Frank. The problem is with the seal being in backwards. With the seal seated backwards there is no lip for the puller to latch onto.
Frank, I have to leave for a while, promised the wife I'd take her to Bed, Bath and Beyond-------coming dear.
      I'll talk to you later.

Call me later and I will explain how to use it. The tool gets in behind the seal, so it does not matter if it in backwards. Yes "Honey do" things have priority.

I replaced the rear bushing and seal on Raymond Loweys 76 Avanti. After removing the grive shaft, I unbolter the transmission extension housing and slid it rearwards, and off the trans. Made replacement really much more convienient.

How difficult is it to replace the extension housing bushing along with the seal?

No his LAST Avanti was a 76, and had a turbo-hydramatic 400. If you don't have a press most machine shops will replace your bushing for a nominal cost.
