Will distributor with tach. drive from 61' 289 prtl flow interchange with 63' 259 full flow? Any differences in dimensions or gearing?

  • #2
The distributors are interchangeable, but you won't be able to use the tach in the 61 with the Prestolite distributor from the 63 as there is no way to mount the tach drive for the 61. Installing the distributor from the 61 in a 63 engine is no problem other than needing different mounting clips for the cap. Bud

All Stude V-8 engine parts will exchange...engine to engine. Some may need matching parts, like crank shafts and pistons...but from water pumps to distributors...all fit all engines.

At least I haven't found any parts that don't...!?

Fuel pumps are different on real early engines....

          Jeff -

Agreed, but most all cams have the fuel pump lobe for the high (breather mount) mount pump.
The cam grinder that did all of the roller cams for me/us...we talked about that more than once...about whether it (that pump lobe) needed to be there or not...!
So, all that's needed is the right parts...and the early pump will work on a 64 Stude engine.

Well thanks for the several replies. Idea is to use complete distributor w/tach drive from 61'eng to the 63'. Didn't want to get into major/tech changes just to use stock tach. in 61' Hawk S/Cpe
