View Full Version : Transmission: Reverse 'Lock Out' Switch

While disassembling a '55 Commander this week, I noticed that the standard O/D transmission has a reverse lock out switch. This switch is like a 'fail safe' that interrupts the wire which leads to the O/D governor. I was surprised to see this setup on a '55, as I thought it was last used in '54. My own '55 Speedster (late production car) is not equipped with a reverse lockout switch...the mounting spot for it on the Speedster's tranny is an unmachined blank. Was this switch removed from the Studebaker O/D system in mid '55?

Well now that you know that Ed, you gotta stop driving 50 in Reverse!
