  • Brakes: M5 parts in the uk.

    Hi
Just joined the forum as I'm the new proud owner of an 1947 M5 1/2 ton truck. I need to rebuild my brakes, either new cylinder kits or complete plus pads. Are there other members here in the uk with either spares or advice as to getting parts. Is there a fairly quick service from USA?

    Cheers guys.

Go to a join this forum Studebaker Truck Farmers (http://www.network54.com/Forum/23885/). This forum is for Stude trucks. You should join and it is free. Lots of info and a group of very knowledgeable people there. Help for parts, mechanical help, and many pictures that can help with restoration. I have a '57 Transtar Deluxe and have found this site has been a savior. It covers all the Stude trucks.

New front wheel cylinders are available from several vendors (sometimes), but there are no new rear cylinders. You can get the old ones sleeved with stainless steel (White Post Restorations, etc.). Kits with new pistons and rubber parts are available for both front and rear. Brake shoes get rebuilt/relined using your old cores, no new ones available. The larger Studebaker parts vendors in the U.S. can ship quickly to UK via UPS, DHL, etc. Try Studebaker International or Studebakerparts.com (Chuck Collins) for the kits.

You should be able to get cylinders re-sleeved in the UK and save on shipping. You can probably get the 11" diameter x 2" wide shoes relined with riveted linings in the UK, as well.

How did you acquire your M5 in the UK? Did you ship it there from somewhere else or was it already there?
