  • 39 or 40 Studebaker ID help

A local guy recently purchased a very nice 39 or 40 Club Sedan street rod. I actually became aware of it when I had stopped by the local sign shop and they were creating a show poster for him. Of course, I had to stop by his business and "welcome" him to Studebaker Nation. Didn't get to see the car in person but he showed me pics. The only thing I could help him with was that it would be either a Commander or President and that the body was designated as a "Club Sedan", not "coupe" that he was having put on the show poster. He says the serial number is 4166503. Didn't give me the firewall data. Can anyone glean any info from the serial number?

I'm going to drop by his place in a bit with some SDC and North Star Chapter stuff. Hope I can get him to our Memorial Day show on Monday and get some pics.

I have two '40 President Club Sedans and one Commander. They look much better as originals!! The one below is not mine but shows what a street rod looks like. This at the Colorado Springs meet last June. Owner: Arden Exner of Aurora, Colorado.

Shucks, Richard. You must be burdened with so many of these...if it ever becomes unbearable...I might be persuaded to assist in alleviating your troublesome situation.

John; Do you prefer green or blue with or w/o side mounts?

The two-tone on the blue one does look pretty smart!

Wow! Those cars all look really good. Black (dark blue actually), green, grey, with chrome, without chrome, the lines are just exquisite. Thanks for posting the inspirational photos!
