  • 1964 Daytona wagonaire

Can any help me with this vin. I have a 64 sliding roof wagonaire with a V8 and 4 speed. The vin is 64V-I3685

  • #2
That vin number gives you three pieces of information:

    64 - model year
    V - equipped with V8 motor
13685 - sequential production number of V8 cars in 1964 model year.

On the cowl is the body tag - that will tell you a little more detail. Good luck.

Would recommend getting a production order form.
Available through the Studebaker National Museum or
through Richard Quinn here on the forum.

62champ said it well. Let's see some pics as I love all things '64! My '64 wagon is Laguna Blue with blue interior. 62champ posted many pics of it on the Forum. Yes you need to get the production order. I'm about to send off to Dick Quinn for him to make up a dealer window invoice for me. It's interesting to see what different options cost back in the day!

Looks like it had a streamer on the cowl tag at one time. Probably said four speed! Nice car!

CBoyd sez: "She's rough but I couldn't sell her. " Holy smokes! If that cancer of the heater box is any indication of the rest of the car....

Your Body Tag tells you what you already know, a '64 V8 Daytona, the 923rd. Body welded up on the body Line, but not the Car's line sequence, that is the numeric Serial number.

That is why it was recommended that you purchase the Production Order, for Original Engine Number, Key Numbers, Order Date, Build Date, Shipped Date, Shipped to City, Colors, Transmission Type, and Options.

It is of course, quite rare to have an Original Four Speed in a Wagon, but it was an option, also Twin Traction Limited Slip Differential could have been ordered and an Avanti "Jet Thrust" High performance engine, un-supercharged R1 or Supercharged R2.

But, by the looks of that Cowl, it may need a complete cowl replacement which would be more work than replacing the complete Body.

How long does it normally take to get a production order?

I have heard of folks getting them as soon as a week from being ordered.
Others have told me they waited as long as a month or more.

I have a few I may order very soon.
                            Maybe I'll post about them...
