  • Electrical: Remote Control Door Lock Ridiculously Easy To Install

The wife had complained about the door on her GT being tricky to lock/unlock with the key, so I decided to upgrade. Had read SScopelli's thread here, how he'd installed Mitsubishi locks on a Stude. A link from that thread led to Alan's and Pat Dernic's experiences with aftermarket kits. So I knew it could be done.

I bought a kit by "SPAL" off ebay for $39. Though it included enough parts for a four-door, I only installed it on the driver's door. From start to finish, it took around three hours, and works like a charm. It includes two remote controls, and also allows use of the key to lock/unlock if ever the electric one fails.

The wife is happy, and I like it so well its probably gonna be put on the round-to-it list to install one on the 62GT. Only wish I'd done this years ago.

Kind of funny....On another forum, the poster was commenting on how his door latch on his truck wasn't working right...
My first thought was it was probably in the locked position, as a lot of older door latches only has lock cylinders on one side, and the other side was manual.

If I'd taken pix it woulda took a little longer I got the basic idea for mounting by looking at SScopelli's pix here. But this universal kit was no where near as complicated as his: http://www.ebay.com/itm/151251228392...84.m1497.l2649 No welding, and no mod to linkage rods. SScopelli's pix were especially helpful with mounting, because the kit came without any instructions except the wiring. By hooking up one door only, there were only four wires to run. http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...mote+door+lock

I also documented my install into a Hawk.

          Take a look at http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...ower+door+lock

            Thanks for the pix pbrown,
Your actuator is identical to mine, as is the connector for the linkage. I mounted mine same as yours, but the GT's door looks a little different. As you said, it is impossible to see any evidence of the mod, once finished. I have not tested max distance of the remote, but can vouch its good for at least 20 feet (distance from the attached garage to inside the kitchen).

I put the receiver under the hood, beside the battery. Only two wires there (red and black) and three inside the door at the actuator (blue, green and black).

Can't get any easier than that! Just today, I ordered another kit for the other GT.

Joe the kit that Pbrown installed looks about as easy as they come. Think I'll pickup a kit for the gt before I put the hawk doors back on. My wife is pretty much done with her cancer treatments and I've gotten back to work in the shop and as soon as everything is caught up I plan to get back to work on it and finish the body shell.
