Fuel System: V-8 Fuel pump item number?

My local Carquest lists their fuel pump # 4227 back to 1955 Studebaker V-8. Should it also fit the '51, '52, '53 and '54 V-8?
And when did Studebaker move the pump from the oil filler neck to the passenger side of the block?

The pump moved in 55, along with a redesign of the heads and valve train.

the 55 and newer pump has a different actuator/arm than the 51-54 pump.

Sep 2009- NOTE: The Airtex 4227 and Carter (NAPA) M2211 are the SAME pump. They both are made
cheaply, have the pivot pin oil leakage issues and will probably fail within a year. There are numerous
references to their problems on the SDC Forum.. For a V8, the best bet is to go to an electric pump.

found in NAPA stores. Lightweight allows you to just let it hang in line with
the fuel lines. no reliability issues reported yet, although they're chheap

up today for 64.79

The E8011 (6 volt) or E8012S (12 volt) pumps are solenoid type pumps which can be used in draw thru applications. They are available from a number of suppliers under various part numbers.


The MAC's numbers are EFP-9350-6 (6 volt) and EFP-9350-12 (12 volt).

Studebaker moved the pump to the drivers side (left) on their V-8's, the passenger side pump arrived with the Chevy engine in 65.

So, is there a part number from Carquest, Advance, NAPA, O'Reilly or any others for the early V-8 fuel pump? Or can we only get the 535701 from SI for $150 with core, or rebuild kits for the ones we have?

Right Brad! Only the '56 Golden Hawk with the 352" Packard V8 had the fuel pump on the passenger side.

We'll my hopes of a NAPA pump for the old 52 were dashed on to the rocks. I may have been able to make it work but decided not to. Tomorrow is a big swap meet at Rhinebeck in Dutchess County I should be able to get something there.
