The fellow that showed his to me ( and is a very experienced car guy in the biz ) , saysOriginally posted by jerezstude View PostThey simply use a sealed lead acid battery, bigger is better. The smaller ones are good for smaller cars but won't start larger high compression engines. If you want a 6 volt unit simply replace 12 volt battery with a 6 volt one. Jerry Kurtz
that he used his to fire up a 1985 Corvette that hadn't started for months , and then used it on
a basically dead truck as well. These are very very small , not a typical small lead acid jumpstart.
His is about the size of an iPhone . Very lightweight.
That piqued my interest. Also , another friend connected with a GrandAm team has told me that they
are using some quite small, and light batteries in those cars as well.
There are a number of Dry cell batteries available for drag cars. , Very light . A bit to costly for me , so I have recently
put a new Optima Yellow Top in my drag car. That was after talking to a tech at Optima .
I'm just curious about the battery tech. I do know that the Tesla uses a huge number of Laptop batteries.
I also have switched all of my camera / smoke detector / flashlight / mouse to Lithium when they need new
batteries and the life is amazing .Bill H

I only know this because my brother flies electric RC planes. They are called LiPo batteries and can deliver quite a jolt in amps on demand. Considering how small and handy they have become, I think the price vs peace of mind could be considered reasonable.sigpic
