I just saw this picture while looking through the Hemmings Blog archive. It looks like Brooks Stevens did a rendering of a "neo-classic" revival Bugatti. If you look closely, the car has a 64 Daytona frame, just like the first generation production Excaliburs:

Stevens built a few of these (Opel engines, btw) and sold the rights or partnered, at least initially (depending on whom is telling the story), with a Frenchman who almost immediately went bankrupted. If you look at detail pix of the 35--should you find them--it appears very much like a rebodied Series 1 X of the era.
