The Red GT with Dayton Wire Wheels which was used at the '63 CHICAGO
Auto Show is the subject of a nice Bob Palma article featuring the JUNE '63
Motor Trend Magazine Cover Car . Good to know that the car still exists and
has been beautifully restored by Steve Doerschlag . The car is probably the
first Hawk to have the Brooks Steven's treatment of a forward roof paintout
which preceeds the '64 GT Hawk option of a vinyl covering in black or white .
Purely by coincidence , I was having a cleanup today of old books and mags
and stumbled onto Automobile Quarterly VOL 12 , No. 3 , 1974 . This book
features an article called " The Life and Times of the Studebaker Hawk " , so
I stopped what I was doing to have a look , with a cup of coffee . On page
330 is a colour photo of the subject car taken in 1974 . The car has the
distinctive black paintout of the forward roof and of course , as per BP's
article , does not have the Dayton Wire Wheels fitted , just standard wheels
with the full hubcaps . The thing is , the photo credits then current owner , a
George K Iffland . I wonder if the guy who put the car into long term storage
bought the car from this gentleman and whether anyone now remembers Mr
Iffland or his family . Whilst the article was done by a Michael Richards , the
specifications and production table was compiled by good old Fred K Fox !!!
