Rare candy today. The story as it was relayed to me:
This gem was sitting on a table @ a swap meet yesterday with a note asking if anyone had an idea what it fit. The guy got it 30 some years ago in a parts lot he bought. It has been kind of a unique door stop in his shop. So along comes a pattern maker who instantly knew what it was. He had worked with, and helped a fellow pattern maker named Spencer from Mishawaka Indiana produce these hot rod intakes for early Studebaker V8's!
As the story was relayed only a half dozen were completed. Mr Spencer has since passed away, but this guy claimed there were left over un finished castings laying in Mr Spencer's barn. Allegedly he is going to revisit the old barn before the family tosses the castings as junk. So someday, somewhere another setup needing some finish machining might pop up. Meanwhile this setup complete with 97's was not for sale. I tried! But it sure was neat!!
Interestingly, I scored a cherry set of 61 Lark fender skirts @ the same swap meet. They have already been spoken for BTW. Have a good day.
