I have a '61 Hawk. I want to remove the u/s heater core, but leave the defroster on the firewall. Should I just loop the hoses that went to the u/s core or plug them? I don't want to blow out the def. core with too much pressure. Thanks- Jim

I would plug them, or eliminate them and simply use reducing fittings to the defroster. That will give you a heckuva defroster! If you loop the heater hose you will just have circulated coolant to no purpose.Brad Johnson,

I am curious as to why you are eliminating the main (under seat) heater. If it is leaking, it can either be replaced or repaired. Properly installed, they usually are not in the way and work very well. If you are modifying the car and eliminating the fender vents, ducting, etc., that's another matter. Just wondering.John Clary

The u/s heater is in the way for mounting the swivel for the pass. seat. I need the swivel for my wife to get in and out and the way I have it now, the seat is too high for anyone over 5 ft. tall to sit in it. I am taking the core out and putting a plate over the hole. I don't need the heater as I only use the car in warm weather. I want to keep modifications to a minimum so I can change it back someday. -Jim
