  • Electrical: Maybe Ed Reynolds can answer about 55 turn signal flasher ?

What makes a 55 turn signal flasher different from the 1954 turn signal flasher ? Why did they go to a 3 prong flasher in the later year of 1955?

Me, I would just buy the 2 prong Flasher for the 2 prong Car and the 3 Prong for the 3 Prong Car, maybe I am not as curious as you!

Its a two prong flasher, the prongs are parallel with or facing each other. They are male and female spade terminals.

          Chris.

I just double checked my memory with the '54 shop manual. The factory installed '54s had a 3 prong flasher. One goes to the key switch for power, one goes to the turn signal switch, and one is ground for both indicator lights.
If yours was working with a 2 prong unit it may have been modified, or your car may have come without signals, and had them added later.
