Yes, I remember that fad, even though I was only about 10 at the time. It wasn't just Studebaker. People would install them aftermarket. I think they were illegal in Pennsylvania. You didn't see them around very long.

It was thought to be a great tool to prevent people from getting run over, because you got the warning that the Engine was running????? So much so that they made them mandatory now.
Next thing they'll do is make Jack in the Box use hermetically sealed Coffee cups so you can't burn yourself!StudeRich

I had forgotten all about these lights! I remember my buddy's dad had one on his beautiful 67 Chevelle SS396. It didn't do much to enhance the looks of that (or any other) car! Didn't really pay attention as to why people installed them around here (South Bend area), but my dad had the good taste never to add one to any of his cars or trucks!
