  • Steering Column Boot for '55 President State Sedan With Power Steering

I haven't been able to find one of these as it is an odd ball due to the fact that the power steering box protrudes through the firewall into the passenger compartment on these vehicles.

While I currently have the manual box installed, I have the complete GM power steering setup and would prefer it.

I sure would appreciate any info as to availability or what folks are doing as a work around..

    TIA

What most people do is not touch those fragile old bulging Firewall Boots, because you almost can not find a usable NOS one.

Saginaw Power Steering Gear Firewall Boot

Why couldn't one just put a Metal flange around the hole of the base plate (rivet, screw or staple) to attach a Leather (Shifter?) Boot and hem it at the top for a Leather tie rope?

Or, maybe you could buy a regular Manual Steering Rubber Plate and modify it, easier to find they are still available in NOS.

Studebaker International lists the one for the C/K cars at $75.00 306912X1.
As far as I remember they are different but fairly close.
          Try to use those.
