  • 1941 Studebaker Champion Coupe Delivery - $33 converted a car into a pickup!

I did a search for references on the Forum, but didn't find these pics - so I thought I'd post:

The Petersen Museum has a truck display:

This Studebaker is a cool variation that I didn't know existed:

    1941 Studebaker Champion Coupe Delivery

Intended to combine the stylishness of a passenger car with the utility of a truck, the Studebaker Coupe Delivery was supplied with a removable cargo bed that could be inserted into the otherwise standard trunk compartment after removal of the decklid. The trunk-mounted pickup bed was manufactured by Edwards Iron Works of South Bend, Indiana, and was available factory-installed for $33. This expertly restored example is the only known surviving Studebaker Coupe Delivery from the 1941 model year and is on loan from the collection of Richard Quinn. -

Obviously, any information needed about these coupe deliveries should be directed to Mr. Quinn!! How many of these have you owned over the years, Dick?

So far as is known (and I have been looking for over 50 years) there are only three Coupe Deliveries in existence, one '39, one '40 and the '41, the latter shown in the original image above. There is also one additional unused box for the 1941-46 (which I have). I am including below photos of my '39 and '40. The boxes were made by Edwards Iron Works in South Bend and were installed during assembly like any other accessory. The STUDEBAKER name in the tail gate is embossed. Deck lids were included in the sale unless the buyer specifically requested otherwise.

I'd sure like to see photos of the interiors and the front of the beds of those options.

There is no front to the beds. The area is open up to the back of the seat. As part of the package one could order a partition for an additional $2.00.

Sometimes thread topics shift a bit.
This one from last July has information about these 'trucks' and the display at the Peterson~

It's beginning to look like I might just make it to the Los Angeles 'Winter Meet' this year...
