View Full Version : Using 53-66 Spindles on a 51-52 car.

As I sit here waiting for the arrangements to be finalized on Lenard Shepherds 52 Commander that I bought, I have been thinking about future modifications. I would like to get the nose down a bit and I was thinking of using some 62 front spindles that I have. A search turned up no specifics. Has anyone on the forum actually used the later spindles to lower their car? I was wondering if this is a direct swap or if there are unseen pitfalls.

Although I've never done this, My opinion would be that it is a direct swap indeed resulting in a lowered front end. (By about an inch or so I would guess)

It will work, but only drop the front end by about 1/2"

A lot of work for 1/2". I knew it wasn't much, but I would like to get the nose down just a bit. I guess I could cut a little off the coils, but I don't want to hurt the driveablity. I figured the spindle swap could leave everything else alone. most of the info is for 53 and up Studebakers.
