  • Made my day

    Hi,
I found this nice photo of Leo's Malt Shop in downtown Stillwater, MN.
It looks like it could have been taken 'back in the day.' Does anyone ever go there?

Maybe they serve root beer, huh Milaca?

Is it just me or does it look like it has the golden hawk style hood scoop?

What I liked was the Chocolate Sodas with Vanilla Ice Cream.

That was my first reaction too, but in blowing up the picture you can barely see the post.
The whitewalls are too wide for '61. They were 2 1/4-inch originally.

Looks to be a coupe with a 58 hawk grille badge and stock hood but with speedster wires and I think that some of the 61's were all one color or at least could be ordered that way, just my guess.

See the store to the left! Glad that's not my last name.

                Cool picture tho.

                  Dean and others,
40 - 50 years ago we had a polka band here in the Minnesota area called Whoopee John. I believe I
am correct that John's last name was Wohlfahrt. Needless to say people used that in describing
when the band will play, If you get my drift.

Just decided I better GOOGLE Whoopee John. His name was actually spelled Wilfahrt.
                    So, there ya go.

                            Hi,
After looking at that street view, I'm having suspicions that the Studebaker
has been photoshopped onto this image. If so, they sure did a good job IMHO.

Growing up on the east side of St.Paul and with my fathers home town of Turtle Lake WS. I went through Stillwater many times as a boy in the 60's. I don't remember leo's malt shop. I do remember going through one of the towns on the way to Turtle Lk. and stopping at DQ for a cone, many times
