  • Brakes: Master cylinder rod extension

On my 62 Champ (under floor master cylinder) I am converting to a dual master. There are 2 sets of holes in the frame that could hold the master cylinder/bracket assembly. On is about 1/2" forward than the other but raises the master to butt up against the floor while the other is back & lower which is better for access. My problem though is with the rearmost location the pedal actuating rod is too short. The thread in the clevis is 7/16ths x 20. I found this on E-bay which would work but no dimensions of thread width & pitch are given.

Has anyone else run into this & what was your remedy?

It's been several years and I have suspended pedals, but I found an adjustable push rod at NAPA. I expect thay can be found at most FLAPS, I think mine was from the Help! product line of Dorman.

I used one of these when installing dual master cylinder on my Clipper and cut off grade 8 bolt to get correct length with jam nut to hold adjustment http://www.mcmaster.com/#rod-ends/=put9pk

http://forum.studebakerdriversclub.c...r-Cylinder-Rod This was the solution for a 63 T-cab dual master cyl. conversion. I hope this helps.

7/16"x 20 has only one thread pitch and thread space.
          This is not metric here!

Yes and no. Your 63 Champ has the suspended or swing pedals while mine still has the old fashioned thru the floor pedal that uses a clevis at the pivot. I'll look at some of these that are listed but the 7/16ths x 20 thread is not that common. I'll measure the pin end of the clevis to see what I need there. I've spent ALOT of money on this & I'm about ready to throw in the towel & put the original single master back on. I bought a rebuild kit for it just in case.

You could try a coupling nut.

I had ordered that this morning (part # 90977A190) I'll try it with a wheel stud from a late 60's Mopar that has the same thread. (cut it down & run it through a die a few times)

The coupling nut worked. I did have to cut about 1/2" off it. Didn't want to cut too much as I wanted to make sure there was plenty there for strength.
