  • Generator driven P/S

Some of you might recall the recent discussion about the power steering on the '57-58 Golden/Packard Hawks with A/C and Power Steering. The Power Steering pump was driven off of a shaft off the back of the generator. Well, lo and behold, there's one of those 'special' generators on my Scotsman. I have a feeling that the generator is one of the $5.00 deals from a local old time parts store. They have a 'stash' of unknown ones...

Anybody know of another possible use for it, other than power steering?

You could put a grinding wheel on it so you could sharpen your tools while you are working on it!

Might not be too far off the mark Lenny. [)]
If you have some talent, that shaft might make for a nice, but very small, and very odd place for a PTO. The skies the limit on this one. Either that or go "Dick Datson" on that shaft.

could be an older car generator that drove the water pump, but I guess not being a 12V charger. I think a P/S pump would be correct.

I wonder if that VS57 will fit on there... [)]

This type of generator was used on 1955 to 1960 chevy which used the Delco generator. This should be a easy part to find. Delco and Saginaw were used by both Studebaker and Chevy the parts are more or less the same or closely related.I'll bet a good Studebaker man could make it work .
