the body to frame shims on my 62 hawk are steel as opposed to rubber is this correct? I thought from what I've seen on posts here they were suppposed to be rubber as most cars are.there are 3 1/4" spacers at each mount

At points that needed raising like the rear, to clear driveshaft in floor tunnel under rear seat steel shims were used but usually with rubber also. They pretty much used both as required to level and fit the body. If you mark and bag each pile as it comes off one at a time you should be fine to re-assemble it as it was.
'63 G.T. Hawks were deliberately raised more in the rear because '62's with 4 speed usually hit the floor. When new they were quite a bit higher than the front! [:0]
