Just a thought has been rolling around in my mind, but I personally have never seen a hawk painted in Autumn Haze....Anyone have pictures of one?

That color looks great. Do you have any more pictures from a different angle?

That is a stunning photo and I second the motion on the request if you have any more of that car. We also have a 61 Hawk that we think is Sudan Beige as it appears on the Ditzler color sample. We won't know until the Production Order arrives. The beige has a slight pink tint to it. About 75% of the car is the original paint. We don't know at this point how unusual it is to find a 61 Hawk in that color, but have never seen another.

Your car appears to be Desert Sand in color. As for other photos of that Autumn Haze example, I do have one other shot of it from the front.

8E45E- The gorgeous Hawk you posted from the '83 Meet is definitely not Autumn Haze (it is much darker), but rather the lighter Desert Sand color. Either way it is gorgeous. Wonder where that Hawk is now??

Clem64- Sudan Beige was a Spring Color for 1960, not a '61 color. In your photograph your Hawk looks lighter than the Desert Sand one from the '83 SDC Meet, but lighting can play tricks and yours could also be Desert Sand. However, I'd be more inclined to say that your car could even be painted Pearl Beige, if it was a special order. Autumn Haze it is not; way too light. Let us know once the production order arrives. Regardless of the color, congrats on a beautiful Hawk.

I think Craig's pic from 1983 IS Autumn Haze, it looks much lighter in the direct sunlight than it is.

Whatever it is, that's one amazing looking car, just beautiful, very nicely restored and a fully loaded car! [^] In that condition any color, even GREEN :( would look good! [^]

That is one of the amazing peculiarities of Autumn Haze. In direct sunlight like when those photos were taken, it lightens up considerably. If I took those pics on an overcast day, you are correct in that it would appear quite dark. That is definitely Autumn Haze in color.

Guys, I seem to remember a story in Turning Wheels some years ago about the origin of the color Autumn Haze. It said the color was a mistake; that it was done as a joke by mixing several other Stude colors together and spraying them on a test body, and Management saw it and liked it. That issue of Turning Wheels used Autumn Haze as the color border on the front and back covers. Does anyone else remember this?[^][^][^]

Look at that! Presto change-O, now it's Autumn Haze! Even the beige/bone fin stripe looks more correct with less sunlight! [:0]

Craig & Lee:
Thank you for the additional 61 Hawk photos. We are naturally of course very interested in pictures of other finned Hawks, especially C bodies. Since this topic is about the Autumn Haze car I probably should not have jumped in with our car. The original Stude color subject is always of interest. If and when our Production Order ever shows up (the microfilm machine is broke down I was told), we will have the answer on our car's color.

Is it safe to assume that you have already checked the bottom of the glove box for the factory label indicating the original exterior color?

Since I sort of attached our Hawk to Kent's Autumn Haze Hawk color topic and possibly should not have, I will start a new topic; "61 Hawk Colors Part 2".
