Hawk hood prop rod on steroids?

I am wondering if this rod has to be folded up to fit under the hood. Does cut down on getting knocked in the head - maybe a mechanics mod?



And those wheel covers without paint REALLY stand out...

Probably a longer rod for temporary use, but it may not have the stock rod. I have used broom handles and the like for extra height when needed.

Maybe it folds & there's a way to lock it about midway?
