View Full Version : 1957 Packard Clipper Country Sedan

11-22-2013, 11:10 AM
Hi Everybody,
I'm restoring a 1957 Clipper wagon and am in need of some retainers(clips) for the stainless trim etc. Studebakers Northwest was supposed to get back to me as they purchased Stephen Allen's inventory, however I never received a call. I tried to contact today and it looks like they may be out of business also. Does anyone know what became of the inventory?
Thanks for any assistance.
Cheers, Bill

Last I heard- SA's inventory was split between SI and Studes West.

SNW is not out of business, nor did they purchase SA's inventory.

I am headed North in about ten minutes, but I'm three days away.
I have a '57 Town Sedan parts car, and can check into this when I get home.

Unless Mike and/or Dad (SNW) find an answer first... ;)

I think you may be waiting for Studebakers West, Carl Thoms to check his Barn stash for those clips some of which came from the Caids collection.
I really do not know, we are here, Carl is open and Steven Allen Caid is not in the Business.

Are these the clips you are looking for Bill? I have 18 of the doubles, and 2 of the singles. The singles are used.
I have 14 of the wire clips. They are for the wide side moldings.

Hi Raoul,
Yes they would be perfect. Let me know what you want for them, and your mailing address and I'll forward payment to you. I haven't assessed how many of mine will be reusable but these certainly will help. Thanks for the dash pics earlier this year, they look great. I hope my local guy here can replicate yours.
Cheers, Bill

Hi Bill,
My name is Bill also, and I'm restoring a 1957 Packard Clipper Country Sedan also.
What is your body color combo and body number?
How's your interior condition? Mine is poor, only the dash and rear seat are in good shape. Looking for some NOS or good used front seat coverings if you have any leads.
Thanks and good luck with your Packard
Bill Clay

Sms doea an outstanding job on replicating the interior fabric and vinyl. If you nedd seat frames, efc...contact Wisconsin Studebaker. I sold Jim a 57 Packard wagon and a 57 Packard sedan last year. They are both parts cars as the floors are shot. There are tons of parts on the wagon. The sedan was pretty picked over. Good luck

Good luck getting SMS to make the cloth for you. They had my money for a year and didn't weave an inch.

Hi Bill,
The southern California sun & heat really dried the interior out. I will have to recover the whole interior. The seats had original dealer installed seat covers but they weren't enough to prevent the deterioration of the material. The good news is there is absolutely NO rust anywhere. I was planning on using SMS but after reading the posting below I am going to investigate other options. Are there any other items you are looking for?
Good luck,

Hi Dave,
Are you selling any parts from your parts car as the deeper I get into this I'm going to require some items.

Bill, you might have good luck with SMS, I'm just relaying my experience with them. I have a few parts from my wagon restoration that you may be able to use. What are you looking for?

In defense of SMS; I ordered some vinyl from them a few years ago and though they took a while, the vinyl received was identical in appearance to the original. The upholsterer complained about how thin it was, but I love it! :D

Hi Raoul,
Left front park lamp assembly (lens not required); hood leading front chrome trim (pot metal not pitted) and get me your address so I can forward payment to you for the trim clips.
Thanks, Bill

Eventually, yes. Right now I am settling back in here at 'home' having been away for most of the year. If the list above is all you are after- about the only piece I might be able to help with is the front park lamp assy. I say that because it has been about six months since I have seen the car...
Please give me a few days to get a look at it.

Hi Bill,
If I can get these photos inserted you'll see the colors(original). I don't have the car home yet (still at the painter's) so I'll get you the numbers at a later date.331523315333152 The reassembly will start late fall when I return to Arizona from the great white north (British Columbia)

Good luck & keep in touch with pics of your project.
