Legacy makes first move to new location
    November 21, 2013 Kay Grote

Photo by Kay Grote/Gering Citizen - Dave Henson of Banner County donated the use of his team of black mules to pull the vintage Studebaker army wagon loaded with museum artifacts from the former North Platte Valley Museum to their new home at the Legacy of the Plains Museum. The short two-mile journey followed the route of the historic Oregon Trail past the Gering Civic Center.

In 2012 we attended the North Central Zone meet hosted by the Western Wheels Chapter right at that location shown, the banquet was held in the Civic Center behind the team of mules. Lot of history of wagons going west on that Oregon trail in the 1800's.

Gering...my hometown. Interesting and comforting to know that hundreds of Studebaker-built wagons passed this way during the pioneering times. If any of you have a chance to tour the west...start with Gering...the home of the Oregon Trail as it passed by Scotts Bluff. Lots of happy memories from the 2002 North Central Zone meet held in Gering.
